Originating from the serene Scandinavian landscapes, Gotland sheep, first introduced to the UK in the 70’s and are renowned for their enchanting silvery curls that exude a natural luster. We celebrate over half a decade of dedication in rearing these magnificent creatures, ensuring each strand of wool we produce carries the essence of quality and care.
At Catlow Yarns, our passion for exceptional quality wool is reflected in our carefully nurtured small flock of predominantly Gotland sheep. These magnificent animals are the cornerstone of our craft, grazing peacefully in our fields and providing us with the finest fleeces known for their unique, silvery sheen and luxurious softness.
Once our Gotland sheep have been sheared, we embark on a journey of transformation. We take great pride in partnering with Halifax Spinning Mill in Bridlington, where the skilled and friendly Paul works his magic. There, our sheep’s fleeces undergo a meticulous process, being spun into beautifully crafted balls of yarn. This partnership allows us to ensure that every step, from shearing to spinning, upholds the highest standards of quality and care.
Our yarn is a pure testament to the beauty of nature, made from 100% pure natural fibers. This commitment to natural processes not only enhances the quality of our yarn but also aligns with our ethos of sustainability and environmental responsibility. The result is a product that is not just a yarn but a piece of our heritage and passion, ready to be woven into your next project.
The yarn produced at Catlow Yarns is more than just a material; it’s a story of tradition, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the land and its creatures. Each ball of wool carries with it the essence of the Gotland breed’s extraordinary qualities and our dedication to maintaining these standards.
